QUAIL  Quebec Association for Independent Living,
9 ch. Bois-Joli, Chelsea, Qc, J9B 1J9

Positions:

QUAIL has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available to people of all ages.

About Quail House:

Under the auspices of the charitable organization Quebec Association for Independent Living, Quail House is home to 5 mentally challenged adults with occasional clients who come for a short visit while their families take a vacation. It is located in the village of Chelsea, Quebec. Through contributions from the voluntary and public sectors it provides residential and support services adapted to English-speaking or bilingual residents from the Gatineau Hills.  Our philosophy is that Quail House be home to the residents for life, for as long as each individual wishes to remain or for as long as his/her personal situation permits.

The care, personal support and housekeeping services are provided by a team of dedicated workers ensuring a presence 24 hours a day.

Responsibilities:

Volunteers serve many important functions at QUAIL and augment our existing services. The Board of Directors and its committees are all comprised of active volunteers. Volunteer activities other than one-on-one support or community friends range from fundraising to gardening and can be tailored to suit a volunteer's interests.

Volunteers play an important role at QUAIL and in the lives of our residents. Volunteers bring their knowledge, life interests, and time and provide someone with a developmental disability a window of opportunity for greater and different life experiences.

Volunteers contribute their time and talents to help QUAIL be better known and respected in our community.

Volunteers aid in our many fundraising projects such as our Strawberry Social, the Christmas Bazaar and our Memorial dinner

Opportunities:

If you're interested in helping out, you're always welcome to participate. Some of the opportunities are described below.

One on One

Matched with a person with a developmental disability in order to spend leisure time together. This may include going to a movie, sports event, walks, or just a quiet time together. Whatever is enjoyed. The possibilities are endless.

Daily Living Activities

Assist in programs teaching cooking, crafts or other skills.

Fundraising

Volunteers are always needed for various fundraising activities and to help create new ones.

Board of Directors

Interested in working on the QUAIL Board of Directors? Volunteers will be referred to the nominating committee.

Special people:

We are looking for  ‘special’ people – people with infinite patience and a sense of humour who are easygoing and have a positive approach to life. The right people would need to enjoy the company of our residents, to understand their various challenges and to work with them to maximize their quality of life.  As team-players, our volunteers will have the ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with the Quail Board and its Caregivers and when necessary with professionals from the health and social services sector.

Requirements:
  • The ability to speak English is essential and fluency in French would be an asset.

  • A valid driver’s license would be an asset.

  • Volunteer hours are flexible evenings or weekends; once a week, twice a month or whenever you are free! We do ask for some sort of commitment. Active participation will help to develop a successful and meaningful relationship.

  • Volunteers are carefully screened through an interview, references, and police check prior to being introduced to the residents.
